Gleeson & Cox

Gleeson & Cox required a replacement to their aging 800 MHz wide area network and fleet of 100 radios.

TeamTalk was happy to help.

To cover this wide area, TeamTalk recommended a LocalNet Digital network using MOTOTRBO IP Site Connect and DM4601 mobile radios. The solution needed to be turn-key and future-proofed.

The network was configured and went live within 12 working days and installation of the radio fleet was completed within the following 21 days.

Gleeson & Cox Project Manager Paul Holdom was pleased with the results.

“Our voice communications have significantly improved across all our job sites. The digital audio is crystal clear, and coverage in our quarries is better than cellular.”

Expansion by Gleeson & Cox meant more radios were later added to the fleet, necessitating a fleet re-numbering exercise. This was completed over the air with minimal disruption to the business.

TeamTalk also supplied simplex channels and a mix of Motorola DP4401 and DP4801 portables for use by site engineers and truck drivers on work sites including the SH1 Southern Corridor improvements between Manukau and Papakura.

Gleeson & Cox use TRBOnet to monitor location of trucks. Combined with voice communication, this helps to ensure safe access and egress to busy and potentially hazardous work sites beside state highways.

Drivers switch to the local channel when on site, and radios scan back for private calls on the wide area network. This is so a dispatcher can contact the driver directly to ask them to switch to the wide area network if required. One-on-one communication between operations dispatch and the driver is an important health and safety measure and means the dispatcher can be sure who they are speaking with.

The last word goes to Paul Holdom, “From two-way data and voice via the MPT network in the late nineties to a wide area private DMR network for the current operation, TeamTalk have clearly understood our requirements and implemented cost effective ‘one stop shop’ solutions to meet them”.
