Tracking trombones for NZ Van LinesCustomer News | 20.06.10
NZ Van Lines is New Zealand’s largest privately owned household removals company, specialising in moving household furniture and other items around New Zealand and throughout the world. They pride themselves on providing a reliable and efficient service.
“We didn’t set out to be the biggest,” says Stu Tutt, National Operations Manager. “But we certainly strive to be the best. It’s imperative that we provide a reliable and professional service to our customers; after all, we’re dealing with their personal belongings,” says Stu.
NZ Van Lines doesn’t just deal with household furniture; they have a huge customer base that includes large government agencies such as the New Zealand Defence Force and Police. And they’ve been carting for the Royal New Zealand Ballet and New Zealand Symphony Orchestra for over 30 years.
Based in Wellington and serviced by 12 branches around the country, NZ Van Lines also has its own a freight forwarding divison, called Apex International Forwarding, which complements their international requirements.
“We’re proud to be a New Zealand owned and operated business that serves the entire country, from Kaitaia down to Bluff,” says Stu.
With a fleet of 100 vehicles that includes at least 20 trucks on the road moving up and down the country on any given day, NZ Van Lines requires a robust, reliable communications system to keep in touch with its drivers.
NZ Van Lines has used our FleetLink network for at least 15 years and Stu says that this is because reliability and coverage are paramount. “The coverage is excellent. A lot of our drivers also have cellphones, but we rely on the radio most of the time because we know the coverage is going to be reliable,” says Stu.
One of NZ Van Lines’ key requirements is having the ability to track their freight and drivers. “Our clients’ requirements can often change at the last minute, so we need to know where our drivers are at any given time,” says Stu.
After using a GPS tracking system through another provider for a number of years, NZ Van Lines found they weren’t receiving the product support they needed, which in turn meant they weren’t using the system to its full capacity. So they talked to TeamTalk about XLERATE.
“We believe that the best way to provide high-quality service to our customers is to make the effort to find out exactly what they need, and why,” says Dan Hancock, TeamTalk’s Account Manager for NZ Van Lines. “We introduced NZ Van Lines to XLERATE a few years ago and made sure we walked them through the entire process and provided constant support for the product. And it’s certainly doing the job for them.”
Stu reckons NZ Van Lines and TeamTalk have a lot in common, which is why we work so well together.
“Transport is a real people business and TeamTalk has the same approach to their business as us, so we’re definitely a good match,” says Stu. “If we have any problems TeamTalk gets it sorted immediately and they always go that little bit further.”
“They’re a really solid supplier and we always know we’ll get a good deal from them. We also recommend TeamTalk to all our customers.”
